Audience

Look at the KISS media pack carefully. This will give you a brilliant background to the brand and how they target their audience (important note: it features the old Breakfast presenting team). 

Answer the following questions:

1) Read page 2. What is KISS FM's mission?

KISS FM's mission is to 
entertain more
15-34yr olds than any other Bauer Media
brand and is extremely influential amongst
this hard-to-reach demographic.

2) Look at page 3. What is the target audience for KISS FM? As well as writing the key statistics from the media pack, try and suggest what psychographic groups would fit the KISS audience too.

The target audience for KISS FM would be 'The Listener', Their audience age groups are between 15-34 nad have a 60/40 female to male split. The psychographic groups which would fit the KISS audience would be the Mainstream because they have a lot variety in music and breakfast shows.

3) Now look at page 5 - The KISS network. How does KISS use digital media and technology to reach its audience? 

Kiss uses Social timelines to Youtube, live events and demand streaming on apps to present music on each platform.

4) Now look at the other side of page 5. What content do KISS Fresh and KISSTORY offer and how can audiences access those stations?
  

KISS FRESH is where you will find music of the hottest and biggest artists and producers in the industry.

KISS STORY is where you will find Old school music, RnB, Garage and Hip Hop.

KISS FRESH and KISS STORY is available on DAB, Freeview, Sky plus at KISSFMUK.COM.


5) Read page 6. What are the different ways audiences can actively engage with the KISS radio brand? 

They can engage with the KISS KUBE app, Online in the KISS FM website, Live events with over 300,000 people and Radio.

6) Are listeners to the KISS Breakfast show active or passive? You can argue this point either way - explain your opinion in your answer.

Listeners to the KISS Breakfast show can be active by joining in with calls and social media, or passive by just having it on in the background while doing other things.

7) Now think about the clips you've watched or listened to of the KISS FM Breakfast show with Jordan and Perri. What audience pleasures are offered by the KISS FM Breakfast show? Use Blumler and Katz Uses and Gratifications theory here.

The KISS FM Breakfast show with Jordan and Perri offers audience pleasures like entertainment through fun music and jokes.

8) How have audiences changed in terms of how they listen to music and radio since the 1960s?

Audiences have changed by using streaming services and digital devices to listen to music and radio instead of just traditional radio sets.

9) How does the KISS FM Breakfast show contrast with Tony Blackburn's 1967 Radio 1 Breakfast show and the launch of BBC Radio 1?

KISS FM is more interactive with social media and modern music whilst Tony Blackburn's 1967 Radio 1 Breakfast show had less fan interaction.

10) Use Stuart Hall's Reception theory to offer a preferred and oppositional reading of the KISS FM Breakfast show. For the preferred reading, why do fans love the show? On the oppositional side, why might someone criticise the show or not want to listen?


Preferred Reading: Fans love the KISS FM Breakfast show for its fun/modern music and engaging hosts.

Oppositional Reading: Some might not like the show because it's too focused on pop culture.

1) When did KISS FM first launch and what type of station was it then? 

KISS FM launched in 1985 and it was a illegal pirate station.

2) Look at the Bauer Media Group's list of brands. How many different types of media can you find on there? What brands do you recognise? 

Bauer Media has different types of media like magazines and radio stations. I recognise Heat and KISS.

3) How does KISS FM make money? 

KISS FM makes money through advertising, sponsorships and events.

4) How many listeners does the KISS Breakfast show have and how has this changed in recent years?

KISS FM had 2 million listeners then when Jordan and Perri came then it went down to 1.4 million listeners and now it is less than 1 million followers and that is more than half of what it was before.

5) How is KISS FM regulated and what can happen if they break the rules?

KISS FM are regulated by OFCOM ( Office of Communication) and if they break the rules they could get fined.
