1) What year was the advert produced?
A) The advert was produced in 1955.
2) How were women represented in most adverts in the 1950s? Add as much detail to this answer as you can as these are the social, cultural and historical contexts we will need to write about in the exam.
A) Women were represented as domestic housewife's. The historical context for this is that after WW2 ended women were taking men jobs so men are trying to make women back to their traditional, domestic maternal stereotypical jobs.
3) How does the heading message ('OMO makes whites bright') and the style of the text promote the product?
A) The background is "white" which promotes the advert and the typography
4) Analyse the mise-en-scene in the advert (CLAMPS): how is costume, make-up and placement of the model used to suggest women's role in society?
A) The women has her sleeves rolled up which connotes that she is ready to do house work. She has makeup on which connotes that you can be pretty while taking care of kids and doing housework.
5) Why is a picture of the product added to the bottom right of the advert?
A) The picture of the product is there to show the audience (women and mothers) where the product is in stores/supermarkets.
6) What are the connotations of the chosen colours in this advert - red, white and blue?
A) The connotations of white is Clean,Purity and perfection which match the advert in the slogan "add brightness to whiteness"
