Learner Response
FOR THURSDAY'S LESSON- blog feedback
I really liked Cobra Kai too - and the original 1980s film of Karate Kid! 🙂
Mise-en-scene
WWW: You are using some great observation skills and starting to use the key media terms such as 'high key lighting' in a successful way.
EBI:
Use the media glossary to make sure you are using words like 'connotation' and 'producer' / 'consumer' whenever you can in your blog posts. Adverts
WWW-You have analysed the Water Aid advert well picking up on the need to create empathy (although check spelling)
EBI- Not enough detail - you need to focus on what the product is first - what is Water Aid? (A charity) SO use this to make a point about what the message of the advert is THEN use each of the things you notice that PROVE your point e.g. the use of blue connotes water which links to... You also have not added ANY detail to your chosen advert (chocolate bar)- so work out what the unique selling point of the advert is and then how do the colours / font choice / logo/ quote make this message work?
Fruit Bowl - Your fruit bowl is so cool! You are obviously good at the editing and technical aspects of Media already s well done! I used yours as an example in the Year 6 open evening.
Film Poster
WWW- You are picking up on the conventions of the film poster well and you are starting to think about how design features show genre and convey narrative (storyline).
EBI- You are not focusing enough on each small detail - now that we studied mise-en-scene you can go back and make this better.
LR
1.Go back to the film poster task and use what we have learned on mise-en-scene (CLAMPS) to add a new paragraph in green font so I can see the changes you have made. Consider 'props' and 'lighting' and colour schemes and their connotations. Use the media glossary and GLOW words in our books to add more media terminology such as 'reinforce' and 'emphasise' and 'consumer'. Then do the same for the advert tasks - you have used very simple terms to analyse the two adverts and you need to proofread your work to avoid literacy issues.
In the poster Thor and his girlfriend are wearing futuristic armour with 2 hammers which suggests that this could be a fantasy/sci-fi film. There is a lot of High-Key Lighting all around the poster. Thor is holding a weapon which makes the consumer connote that there is action in the film. Thor is holding his newly weapon "Storm Breaker" and his girlfriend is holding "mjolnir" which is his old weapon and that makes the consumer think how has his girlfriend have his old weapon which encourages them to watch the film. There is a Flying unicorn with a woman sitting on it with a weapon which connotes that this film in fantasy with a lot of action in it. Lastly, There is a person laughing in the background with orange eyes and a weirdly shaped face which suggests he is the villain.

2. I would like you to push yourself to do some of the extension tasks. Please do read the Stranger Things article and make notes in your blog (bullet points are fine) about how mise-en-scene gives us insight into the characters e.g Will's 'bowl cut' hairstyle.
3. The Stranger Things task has not been done? Don't publish until work is finished.
Thanks! And well done on an excellent start to the subject 🙂
